I don’t have to be a part of everything, I don’t always have to be involved, I have a right to say no. If you feel offended then I’m sorry that I am not sorry.
Many times people contact me to get involved in their project and most times they expect me to say yes because they feel they are entitled in some way. Well as much as I hate to break it this way, I’m sorry that I’m not sorry. I’ve learnt pretty much over the years that as I grow I must learn to conserve/manage my energy, time, and resources. Before I engage with a project I look out for some specifics, these specifics determine if I will engage or not. These specifics are personal, they are core factors that help me decide if the project is worth my time, attention, commitment, involvement etc. Unless there’s an inner conviction regarding the project asides the specifics telling me to engage I won’t. Even the conviction is carefully evaluated before making a commitment.
Many are already spent, burnout, exhausted, without the inspiration to move on in life because they wasted their energy on various projects that didn’t yield. It’s imperative that we carefully ask the right questions before engaging in a project.
Ask yourself these questions.
- What is the vision, mission, aims and objectives, goals, plans, strategies, project duration, mode of execution, results and expectations, funding, returns etc? Find out the history of such people to be sure they have integrity and accountability.
Also ask yourself these questions in simple terms.
- What’s in it for me. What do I stand to gain, how does this add to me, will I learn any new skills, will I build new and quality relationships out of this. Be sincere with yourself and then decide. Remember you are pilot of your affairs so be wise.
